How to audit your business listings in one afternoon
A listing audit is a spreadsheet, not a mystery. You are looking for every public copy of your name, address, and phone that does not match the official line.
The official line
Write one NAP on paper first. Then search. If you change the official line mid-audit you will “fix” listings into a third version. Rule: NAP must match.
Where to look (90 minutes)
- Google your exact business name plus city.
- Open Apple Maps, Bing Places, Yelp, Facebook, BBB, Angi, and the two trade directories your customers use.
- Search the old DBA and the old phone if you ever changed them.
- Note each URL, the name as written, the address, and the phone.
How to score a row
- Match: leave it.
- Editable mismatch: overwrite to the official line.
- Locked mismatch: mark it. Do not create a new listing to “win” it.
- Duplicate: claim and merge if the platform allows it.
Only then add more listings
New citations on top of three phones make the mess louder. After the first 20 are clean, the long tail helps. That is the listings pass in 40 to 200 directories and the Nexus layer in Nexus vs Quantum vs 360.
