Set holiday hours on Maps before the long weekend
Closed on the site and open on Maps is how a shop earns a one-star review over a long weekend. The customer drives to a dark bay, or they call a number that rings out, and they say you stood them up. Ethical AI is in Frisco, Texas. We set holiday hours for HVAC, plumbing, roofing, and other shops that roll trucks in Dallas-Fort Worth. Update the listing the week before. Do not wait for the morning you are closed.
Where the hours have to match
Maps is the hour the customer trusts. The website, the truck voicemail, and the text you send the day before have to say the same thing. One of them open and the others closed reads as a no-show.
- Special hours on the listing for the holiday, not a note buried in a post
- The same closed or open line on the website header
- The voicemail greeting, changed before the last truck rolls on the prior day
- The text your office sends to jobs already on the board
If you are running emergency calls, say that. "Closed" while a tech is on call makes the customer think nobody will come. "Emergency only, this number" is the honest line. A holiday coupon is not an hours update.
The week-before pass
Do this five days out, not the night before. The listing can take a day to show the new hours, and your crew needs the same sentence.
- Write the dates you are closed, and the dates you are emergency-only. One line each.
- Put those hours on Maps as special hours. Remove last year's holiday if it is still sitting there.
- Change the site and the voicemail to the same line. A banner that says "call for hours" is not an answer.
- Tell the person who answers the emergency line. If that person is off, name the one who is on.
- The day after, set the hours back. A listing that stays "closed" into the next Tuesday loses the weekday call.
Hours are part of the listing, same as the category and the phone. Walk the listing checklist before the holiday, not after the bad review. If the primary category is still a pile of every trade, fix that in the same pass: one category, the job you want.
What not to do
Do not leave regular hours up and hope the customer reads a holiday post. Do not mark the shop open so you look busy when the bay is locked. Do not send the holiday caller into a chatbot that says you are open.
- Special hours on the listing, the site, and the voicemail, same words.
- Emergency-only means a named person and a number that is answered.
- Put last year's hours away. A stale closure looks like you went out of business.
